The concept for this project is storge. Storge is a Greek word that refers to natural or instinctual affection, such as the love of a parent towards offspring and vice versa. In Minari, it deals with different kinds of family love. Soonja gives endless love to her grandson regardless of his misbehaviour. And even after the fight, Jacob and Monica show their trust for each other. Personally, I felt storge when I was around my grandma and mom while they were sewing. In order to sew, we need to dedicate our time and energy to it. This resembles the sacrificial love of family.
For the sequence, I wanted to show the process of stitching in close-up shots, so that we don’t really know what is happening at the beginning. At first, it starts with a close-up shot of sewing thread, and a thread leads our eyes to the next scene. From there, the needle takes the lead and takes us to the journey of the stitching. For the ending, I show the close-up shot of the stitched title and that’s the end of the sequence.
